Saisha Maynard is a powerhouse vocalist that blends elements of R&B, Funk, Soul and Neo-Soul into her sound.

Whether she’s putting a funk twist on a pop song, jamming with her music collective, or dominating any stage with nothing but a mic and a band, Saisha’s presence is magical.

Starting her musical journey really young, Saisha studied musical theatre at university and later became involved in gigging.

“I have such a deep connection to music, it can make me feel anything. I’m quite in tune with music to the point where I can go on the journey that song wants me to go on,” she shared.

At just six years old, Saisha took the stage for the first time in a production of Cinderella. “I was in the chorus and got to wear a pretty dress,” she recalled. That early experience sparked a passion for performing, leading her to pursue formal training at a theatre school.

She continued to study music throughout her school years and into university. “It was a work in progress,” she said, reflecting on her journey.

Growing up, her mum would play reggae, R&B, and classic records that shaped her taste. Family nights often involved deep discussions about lyrics, melodies, and arrangements. “You would think we were like Simon Cowell in the kitchen,” she laughed.

For Saisha live music is her calling, “I just love the live, in the moment interaction, because I think music is expression. I just love the instant gratification, you get to see people’s reactions from what you have done, and I enjoy that. I like being on the stage, feeling a rush and setting up the gear and taking it down. I love the human interaction,” she said.

Her biggest personal influence is her late brother, “he is definitely an influence on my musical journey and helped me grow as a musician. All of the things that he was saying I didn’t want to listen to at the time but now I’m like yeah you were so right.”

Moving forward Saisha’s goal is simple, more gigs, more music and more growth, “I’ve come a long way, especially in terms of confidence,” she reflects.

“With musical theatre, you can hide behind a character. But with live music, it’s just you and a microphone. You have to be yourself.”
